What should a sashiko starter bundle include?
A starter bundle should bring together the pieces you need for your first swatch. Our thread bundles contain thread; they are not complete project kits. Check the stated contents and choose cloth, needles and a pattern separately when they are not included.

Cover the core materials
Start with stitchable cloth, a compatible sashiko thread and at least one clean needle with an eye that accepts the thread. A pre-printed design can make the first rhythm easier to learn.
Check both the length per skein and the number of skeins. The Olympus blue and white four-skein bundle contains 4 × 20m, or 80m total; the Daruma thick five-skein bundle contains 5 × 40m, or 200m total. These totals are split across the supplied colours, so allow enough of each colour for your design and a practice swatch.
Add the small enabling tools
Thread snips or scissors, a simple ruler or gauge and a safe needle holder turn loose materials into a workable kit. A thimble or threader is useful when it solves a real handling problem.
Avoid filling a beginner bundle with specialised tools that are not explained. Clear instructions and a small sample plan often contribute more than another accessory.
Check the relationship between parts
The needle, thread and cloth should be tested as a set. A beautiful bundle is frustrating if the thread is too full for the eye or the printed design needs a different care step.
Keep the labels and care information together. The bundle becomes a reference for future colour, needle and cloth choices after the first piece is complete.
