Choose a washable marking method for sashiko
Choose a marker by its instructions for your fabric, then prove removal on a matching scrap. A pencil sold for construction, carpentry or general writing is not automatically a washable textile marker.

A clear line is only the first check
Read the exact label
Identify whether the mark is removed by water, time, heat or another specified process. Do not combine instructions from two different products.
Use the project conditions
Make a small mark on a scrap of the same cloth. Check whether the colour is visible without pressing hard.
Remove, dry and inspect
Use the instructed method, let the scrap dry and inspect it in good light. A line that disappears while wet may still leave a trace after drying.
Check the tools actually offered
Our marking range includes Clover Chacopy and Chacopaper sheets. A dedicated washable pen is not established in the current catalogue. The Tajima and other workshop pencils should not be presented as washable fabric pens.
Keep heat separate from guesswork
Clover warns that ironing its Chacopy marks can make removal difficult. Water-removable pre-printed samplers also have their own preparation rules. Keep both the cloth and marking instructions until the work is finished.
