Inspect the blend
Check the weave, surface slubs and stretch in both directions. A tightly woven blend can take a detailed pattern, while a loose one may suit open rows and larger motifs.
Place a short thread line on the cloth and look for gaps around the stitches. The thread should sit clearly without forcing the weave to spread.
Test shrinkage and marking
Wash a sample using the planned care routine and compare measurements. The cotton and linen fibres may respond together but not identically, changing the final dimensions.
Try the marking method before washing and after washing if the workflow depends on it. Some surfaces accept a mark clearly only when relaxed and pressed.
Choose a forgiving pattern
If the blend has visible texture, begin with a simple geometric repeat that can absorb small surface variations. Keep very small crossings for a smoother cloth.
Leave the finished sample soft enough to fold and use. A dense thread field can remove the drape that made the blend attractive in the first place.
