Choose and fit a leather sashiko thimble
Leather thimbles include fingertip covers, rings with plates and other shapes. Fit and needle contact depend on the exact design. Do not follow a generic palm-strap instruction just because a product is called a sashiko thimble.

Use the actual fitting instructions
The Olympus adjustable leather thimble has its own product page and the supplied packet remains the fitting authority. Check that the packet’s fitting diagram matches the item in your hand; a fingertip cover and a ring with a plate place the needle contact differently.
Try it without increasing force
Once you have the correct fit and contact area, practise slowly on a spare piece. The thimble supports the eye end while the point travels through the cloth; it is not permission to drive a bending or unsuitable needle harder. Stop if the tool slips, presses painfully or allows the needle to reach skin.
