Thread and needle matcher
Start with your cloth, thread and layers, then choose a combination to test on a swatch.
Start with your cloth
Not sure of the fabric? Choose the closest description below, or leave it unknown and try a swatch before choosing thread.
- Thread to compare
- Choose cloth first
- Needle to compare
- Test on a swatch
A simple illustration of the layers. Try the actual materials together: the needle should pass through comfortably and the thread should sit without pulling the cloth.
Why this starting point?
- Fabric is unknown, so no positive thread weight can be inferred. Start with a labelled swatch and compare the stitch on the actual cloth.
- Thread is unknown. Keep the result provisional until both materials are identified.
- Needle length alone cannot establish suitability. DARUMA and Olympus guidance are starting points for a real-cloth test, not exact pack compatibility claims.

How do I print at the right size?
Choose A4 or US Letter, download the PDF and print at 100% or actual size. Turn off “fit to page”. Measure the 50 mm check with a ruler before you transfer anything to cloth. Larger designs include numbered tiles and an assembly overview.
Can I use my own materials?
Yes. Every tool and download is free to use with materials you already have. Shop suggestions are optional. Test your thread, needle and any marking method on a small piece of the actual cloth first.
