Keep buttons, buttonholes and fastenings clear. Mark a patch that reaches stable cloth but does not interfere with the cuff’s opening.

Reduce bulk

Choose a patch that sits smoothly across the worn area and a thread weight that can pass through the folded layers. If the edge is thick, a shorter needle and slower rhythm may help.

Use an open or directional pattern that follows the cuff rather than packing the turn with dense crossings. The cuff must still fold without a hard ridge.

Secure the high-wear edge

Finish the patch edge with even stitches and inspect the reverse for loops that can catch on a sleeve. A neat edge is part of the repair’s durability.
